The Stereotype

Why is it that so many people still hold stereotypes in this day and age?  The plain and simple truth is that, sociologically, we as a people are going through a major transformation here in America.  Some people still think that "going to Harvard, having a $3 million house, and 4 BMW's in their garage" is the ultimate aspiration.  Sure it's something that a lot of people would want in their lives, but it isn't the ultimate "dream" that we should aspire to.
What people should be obsessed with is being happy.  BMWs and $3 Million houses don't make you happy, it sure as shit makes life perhaps a little easier in the long run; you get to see your wife a little less if she's being annoying, but what makes the mirth in ones life is the fact that they worked to get there, to the state that has a house and the BMW.  What so many people are missing, is the fact that not everyone who has the rich life is happy, not everyone is living in heaven; they still have work and jobs and family and stress, and then the stress of maintaining what they have that makes their lifestyle so amazing.
Have we been so obsessed with the "celebrity life" that we forgot that people can still be happy with an apartment and a stable relationship and not being a millionaire from the get-go?  What happened to forming a relationship based on love and understanding?  People believe that the only way to be happy is with a room full of currency, and it's sad.  We look at the president of America, he's filthy rich with all of his family ties to the oil industry, but he isn't having the best time in office, in fact, he fucking sucks!
My point is that society has to stop being blinded by the "rich" ideal and start looking towards happiness.  People like hanging out with people who are happy, not looking for money, others are more willing to help you along if you aren't acting like a leech to their situation, or a gale-force wind of anxiety and depression about your situation.
